Injury at Sea

Cruise Ship Injuries


This refers to when an individual sustains personal injury while on a cruise ship, such as Slipping on a wet deck; Falling on a gangway; Falling while on a shore excursion; Collision of the ship, etc.

Such an injured individual can request compensation from a sea passenger carrier under Articles 786 and 590 of the Japanese Commercial Code.

If the accident is caused by the captain's or seaman's intentional or negligent action, then the individual can request compensation from shipowner (or the lessee of a ship) under Article 690 of Commercial Code.
